Frequently asked questions
Which phones are supported by Velox for Java MIDP?
Minimum requirements:
Where do I find information/specs for my phone?
First, try to take a look at the various developer pages. They normally provide the
best information:
And some other useful pages:
Why can't Velox connect to the Bluetooth GPS receiver?
There might be several reasons for this issue:
Why can't Velox be downloaded?
Please make sure you have the correct GPRS settings installed on your phone.
If the GPRS settings are ok and the installation still doesn't work, then
download the Velox .jad and .jar file to the PC and try to install it using
your phone software (e.g. Nokia PC Suite).
Why doesn't Velox start?
Probably your phone doesn't meet the requirements. Normally this either means
the phone has not enough memory (e.g. some Motorola models) or don't provide
the necessary APIs (e.g. some Samsung phones which have Bluetooth, but no
JSR-82 Bluetooth API).
Why is Velox closed with a "Force Close" error?
This sometimes happens on an Android phone. In this case, delete Velox and
re-install it again.
Why doesn't the Velox record the GPS track?
The most common problem is full memory. Some phones (e.g. Motorola) limit the
available storage to some hundred kilobytes, regardless the available space
on the phone. Delete some recorded tracks and retry it again.
Why can't the track be uploaded?
Make sure you have the correct GPRS settings installed on your phone. Sometimes
it's also necessary to configure the GPRS settings for Java applications.
Does Velox for Java MIDP phones require an Internet connection?
No, unless you want to upload the track to www.veloxgps.de.
While recording GPS tracks no internet connection will be
established and no transmission costs will incur.
There is one exception: some phones with internal GPS receiver use assisted GPS (A-GPS) to get a faster time to first fix. If you want to make sure no connection is established when using the internal GPS, then you must turn this feature off in your phone settings (e.g. on SonyEricsson: Location services -> Settings -> Assisted start -> Never).
Does Velox for Android phones require an Internet connection?
Yes. Velox for Android phones includes Google Maps and needs an
Internet connection for downloading maps. You can of course use Velox
without displaying maps, which will reduce your transmission costs.
